The Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering is looking for a Lecturer to teach large and small groups of architects and potentially civil engineers (undergraduate and postgraduate) using a range of teaching methods. This position will include teaching in a lecture and online environment with some studio teaching. In-person teaching will be based in Bath, UK. The successful applicant may be asked to take on some teaching management duties such as leading our accredited Postgraduate Certificate in Professional Practice (Part 3).  

Our ideal applicant will be expected to have experience in teaching in a lecturing and/or design studio environment to architects and will have an excellent knowledge and understanding of the UK professional registration requirements for Architects. It is essential that they have experience of supporting staff towards professional registration as an architect in the UK. They will be able to collaborate effectively with other professions involved in the design of buildings and have experience in the building design process in the UK. An understanding of design details and how they impact on the design and construction of buildings is also essential to be able to undertake the role.  

This position could be taken on as a job share, provided we can cover all requirements of the role. We expect any members of staff in a job-share to spend at least 40% of their time employed by the University to ensure we can cover the teaching management and student support aspects of the role. Staff will be supported in obtaining an accredited higher education teaching qualification, if they do not already have one. We also offer mentoring support to all our staff in the Department. 

The Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering is an internationally renowned Department and is consistently ranked near the top of UK league tables for both Architecture and Civil Engineering. We achieved excellent results in the 2022 National Student Survey in both Architecture and Civil Engineering.

The Department is committed to supporting excellence in both research and teaching. It offers undergraduate, taught postgraduate and PhD research programmes related to both Civil Engineering and Architecture, and our Civil Engineering and Architecture students collaborate with each other on some interdisciplinary design projects as part of their undergraduate degrees. Our research activity covers a broad range of areas and we collaborate within the Department, across the University of Bath and with external partners in delivering high quality research in the context of climate change and delivering a sustainable built environment.
