Updates on engineering and architecture jobs available around the world

The Department of Architecture is seeking a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to work in the Cambridge Room, one of a network of Urban Rooms developing across the UK. This is a full-time, fixed-term role within the department, with initial funding for 3 years in the first instance.

This highly varied role will suit a flexible and outgoing individual with excellent communication skills and a background (and PhD) in architecture, planning or related discipline. Although based at Department of Architecture, they will be visible not only in the Cambridge room and in pop-up consultation spaces across Cambridgeshire.

The aim of the Cambridge Room is to improve inclusion in decision making on spatial planning, supporting the development of more inclusive and resilient places and knowledge exchange between communities, universities, industry and practice. Extensive experience of research in community consultation for planning and making maps with communities, digital data mapping and community outreach will be essential.

Working with and liaising with the public, policy makers, local authorities, community groups, educators, academics and practitioners, as well as other PDRAs in the same research area – the role-holder will help build the Cambridge Room as an exemplar of best practice in participatory spatial planning.

Working closely with the PI, the role holder will:

 – Map and develop connections with existing community groups, social networks and participation activity across the Cambridgeshire area;

 – Help with the design and set up of both physical and online Rooms;

 – Support the Room management team in the effective and safe management of the space;

 – Monitor engagement within the Room, including data management and analysis;

 – Monitor and promote equality, diversion and inclusion within the Room and its activities;

 – Undertake interviews, surveys and mapping activity with members of the public;

 – Disseminate the learning from the Room through academic and industry publications, conferences and presentations;

 – Develop diagrams to illustrate findings and processes within the Room.

It is an exciting time to join the Department, and the wider research community within the School of Arts and Humanities, and University, as we head towards REF 2028. A pro-active approach to hypothesis, experiment and theory, as well as sustainability more generally, will ensure that the workload is both exciting and fulfilling.
