The inaugural Annual Summit of Open House Europe, an international collaboration project partially supported by the European Union, will take place this week at the Lisbon Architecture Triennale. A public program centered on sustainable practices in our built environment, which relates to this year’s subject of “Building Futures Together,” will be presented during the summit on December 15–16.
The Annual Summit brings together experts, students, and organizers of Open House festivals in one neighborhood. Its goal is to promote interregional communication by bringing together the information and viewpoints of many fields.
Three discussions in public
The Annual Summit, a joint venture of Open House Milano, Open House Bilbao, and Open House Lisboa. Three public debates, which are the focal point of this Summit and include presentations and mediated conversations, are essential to the program. They explore sustainability at different sizes in our cities. The Open House Europe YouTube channel will broadcast all three of these debates live online.
The panel will be moderated by Sandra Marques Pereira, a researcher in urban sociology, housing, and cities. It will also feature Demetrio Scoppeliti, Director of Urban Planning and Public Space at the City of Milan’s Agency for Mobility, Environment, and Territory; Filipa Serpa, Vice President of the Board of the Institute of Housing and Urban Rehabilitation; Janet Sanz, Deputy Mayor of Barcelona for Ecology, Urban Planning, and Urban Mobility; and Susana Ruiz, who oversees urban planning for the city of Bilbao.
Various research studies on supply chains, heat islands, and water scarcity will be presented, and then there will be an audience debate. Urban planner and creator of the Urbanistica Podcast Mustafa Sherif will moderate the conversation. Additionally including landscape architect, researcher, and award-winning scholar Aurora Carapinha, and data science enthusiast Manuel Banza, specializing in urban mobility. Lastly, researcher and architect Mariana Sanchez Salvador.
Moreover, Ivan Blasi, the Fundació Mies van der Rohe’s Curator of Prizes and Programs, will preside over the third discussion. The panel includes architects Francisco Adão from Oficina Pedrêz, Marta Pastor from Studio Vaumm, Gianandrea Barreca from Barreca &La Varra.
