Funded Doctoral Teaching Assistantships

The Faculty is advertising for a number of Doctoral Teaching Assistantships to join its postgraduate research community. The Faculty has long been a national leader in fostering civic engagement focusing on creative and business industries, economies and practices, driven by social action and interdisciplinary research into the changing global societal challenges.

The positions are spread across three Schools. Both teaching and PhD activities are undertaken concurrently. The Schools welcome high quality research proposals for PhD study (which must be submitted with all applications) in areas indicated below:

Plymouth Business School is offering funded Doctoral Teaching Assistantships. These positions consist of (i) a part time (0.5 FTE – actual salary £15,703 per annum) teaching contract at Grade 6; and (ii) a part-time PhD (0.5 FTE) offered for a 5 year period (covering 4 years of doctoral study plus 1 year writing up). Specific subjects include: Business and Management; Logistics and Supply Chain Management; Tourism and Events Management; and Finance and Economics.

The School of Art, Design and Architecture is offering funded Doctoral Teaching Assistantships. These positions consist of (i) a part time (0.2 FTE – actual salary £6,281.20 per annum) teaching contract at Grade 6; and (ii) a full-time PhD offered for a 4 year period (covering 3 years of doctoral study plus 1 year writing up). Specific subjects include: Architecture, Digital Art and Technology or Built Environment.

 The School of Society and Culture is offering funded Doctoral Teaching Assistantships. These positions consist of (i) a part time (0.2 FTE – actual salary £6,281.20 per annum) teaching contract at Grade 6; and (ii) a full-time PhD offered for a 4 year period (covering 3 years of doctoral study plus 1 year writing up). Specific subjects include: English and Creative Writing, History, Art History, Music (including Computer Music and Brain-Computer Music Interfacing), Performing Arts, Criminology, Law, Sociology, International Relations, Politics.

 In addition to the PhD Fee Scholarship, you will be trained to undertake teaching within a relevant subject area alongside our Undergraduate Programme team. You will undertake both your PhD and teaching in the same School.

You are required to have relevant educational background, and a strong wish to pursue a PhD with an original research project. An interest in a career in the Higher Education Sector, specifically in teaching and research.
