VAUST Studio in Berlin has designed a new restaurant to deal with the post-pandemic situation

by creating separate seating areas divided by linen curtains inside.

The 120-square-meter restaurant is located in Berlin, Germany, and has been dubbed the JIGI Poke Restaurant.

The interior design of the restaurant has a warm and natural color palette to provide a practical atmosphere for its customers.

The interior also includes curved beveled tables, wood and stone benches,

to give the space a ‘fish market scene’ feel.

The studio sketched out the sketch, intended to design a Poke restaurant,

and then the team decided to edit the concept from what was already known.

This project is about reassessing ideas about how to organize hospitality in times of pandemic.

The goal was to reduce the number of potential guests taking up seats at the same time,

and to increase the distances between people sitting opposite each other.

The majority of seats have also been reformed to have a clear management structure within the restaurant.

When guests arrive, they present their orders to a stand-alone cash desk,

which in turn moves the job to an isolated preparation lab where the order is processed.

The space is designed to direct the customer to take a seat and pick up the order as soon as they are notified,

in order to avoid crowding and unnecessary waiting moments.

Design Features

The architects drew inspiration for the design from a photograph of a Hawaiian fisherman from 1907,

which serves as a role model and gave inspiration to the concept.

The painting is of a man sitting on a rock, wearing only the most basic piece of clothing on his body,

and preparing his equipment to go out and hunt.

The studio noted the intimacy, balance, and honesty in this situation in the photo.

The guest room revamped the idea of a targeted warm experience,

by adding two curved concrete tables that complement one another.

Working to bring attention to the center of the room, the team used Norway-cut granite and wood logs,

inspired by the fisherman, to provide seating.

While the table has a rough but gentle surface, it does give an idea of the structure of terrazzo.

Rocks of different colors also add a natural and warm color palette to the interior.

The floor and walls are covered in warm hues, creating a natural and earthy atmosphere,

and linen curtains are added for a bespoke solution via aluminum suspensions, gently complimenting the seating position.

The stone, which is part of the restaurant’s identity,

rotates slowly in the window in the most prominent place in the restaurant.

The design team also used handcrafted concrete applications with a rough texture that goes in tandem with the stainless steel kitchen counters, which are separated from the guest room by large glass.

The interior of these particular spaces is reminiscent of the fish market hall scene with its steel and tiled roofs.
