Senior Lecturer in Architecture

De Montfort University is an ambitious, globally-minded university with a strong focus on delivering quality teaching and learning, and a campus-wide focus on providing a sector-leading student experience.

DMU has a commitment to the public good. We strive to maintain a stimulating and inclusive environment where staff and students are able to thrive. Our success is built on a fantastic student experience coupled with award-winning teaching and world-class facilities that help students develop the skills and attitudes employers demand.

Faculty/Directorate

The Faculty of Arts, Design and Humanities has an excellent reputation as a leading Higher Education provider of creative disciplines and for academic English teaching. These programmes are taught by internationally acclaimed and award-winning academics in the UK – and we are now seeking to extend our reputation through our appointments and campus in Dubai. Our UK Architecture graduates have gone on to work for some of the best practices worldwide, including Heatherwick Studio, Make Architects and Shigeru Ban Architects.

The Role Requirements

We are seeking to appoint academic staff in Architecture to support the development, management and delivery of our BSc Architecture programme at DMU Dubai. You will be joining an enthusiastic team in establishing this exciting new programme as a sector-leading, regional centre for excellence. You will lead on building professional networks, engaging stakeholders, liaising with PSRBs and playing an active role in establishing a programme community for students.

Programme Leader: From the applications to this post, we will also be seeking candidates with proven experience of leadership and academic programme management who could also become Programme Leader for BSc Architecture.

The Person

You will be educated to Master’s degree level (or higher), and have experience of teaching and assessment in Higher Education. You will have proven industry experience – with extensive knowledge and expertise related to at least two key aspects of the core Architecture curriculum; Design, digital design, history, ethics, theory, technology (structures, materials, environments) and the professional context of architecture. You will have a working understanding of RIBA accreditation and criteria.

You must be passionate about teaching the next generation of architects to challenge their future industry and help make the changes needed in construction to tackle the climate emergency and engender social change.

The BSc Architecture curriculum in Dubai will be the same as the UK BA Architecture curriculum – but we have elected to change the degree qualification for our undergraduate architecture courses at our overseas campuses – which has the full support of RIBA.

We are seeking full-time staff but would also encourage applications for part-time (salaried) roles and for hourly-paid adjunct staff.
