Serpentine Pavilion 2023 in Kensington Gardens, UK.

The pavilion, called À table, is a circular wooden structure that invites visitors to “meet, sit,

Thinking, Sharing”, while celebrating the exchanges that enable new relationships.

Aiming to promote “sharp discussions” around the table, the pavilion,

which is inspired by the French-Lebanese architect’s Mediterranean heritage, features,

with a circular table along the perimeter to welcome visitors to “share thoughts,

fears, joys and dissatisfactions, responsibilities and traditions,

Cultural memories and histories that bring us together.

The table appears as “an invitation to live together in the same place and around one table.”

There is a great deal of enthusiasm with the approaching opening of the pavilion and the setting aside

to provide a space for people to enjoy, stroll and meet while discussing the difficulties of the day to spur the necessary change.

The pavilion rises as a wooden structure that blends in with

the unnatural surroundings, inviting people to sit around the elaborately designed benches, tables and chairs and enjoy the surroundings.”

The pavilion scheduled to open to the public on 9 June 2023 in Kensington Gardens, London.

The pavilion described as a “festive space” that responds to the difficult times of the day.

Design features

Built in a modest and low profile, the language of the pavilion inspired by an expressive outer structure made of radially shaped wooden ribs to support a suspended pleated roof.

People will feel themselves in an atmosphere reminiscent of the Togona huts of the Dogon people in Mali,

West Africa, designed to bring all members of society together in discussion.

The pavilion is built mostly from bio-sourced, low-carbon materials,

which are integrated in harmony with its location.

The overall appearance of the pavilion evokes the texture of foliage,

while its canopy embraces the nature of the park in which it appears.

The 22nd Serpentine Pavilion, which takes nature, organic and sustainability at its core, built

By technical advisors at AECOM, the world’s trusted infrastructure consulting firm.

The wing designed so that each piece contributes to the delicate leaf-like shape and structural stability of the canopy.

Using simple, lightweight and readily available wood materials to create a unique structure that focuses on people, the community and its environment.

The 300-square-meter pavilion has a circular plan with a diameter of 21.1 metres,

while its central circumference is about 3.4 metres.
