Jian XU designs apartment for client & two canine companions

Jackie XU Shanghai Private Residence by Goldchild’s designer Jian XU embodies the connection between its owner, a cherished client, and her two canine companions—a 4-year-old Schnauzer and a 2-year-old Italian Greyhound. The design ethos revolves around the symbiotic relationship shared between the owner and pets, creating a space of mutual reliance and support.

In the design process, the design team delved into the intricacies of canine and human perception, focusing on spatial dynamics and color theory. Research revealed differences in color perception between humans and canines, influencing the selection of a color scheme anchored in the ‘yellow and blue’ spectrum. Materials such as teakwood, brass, bronze, grey oak, warm grey sisal, Prussian blue mosaic, grey terrazzo, and dark brown matte aluminum panels were thoughtfully chosen to create a cohesive visual narrative for both occupants.
