University Teacher in Architecture

The Sheffield School of Architecture is making a strong commitment to strengthening its learning and teaching through investment in key areas. As part of this investment we wish to recruit an exceptional architect for University Teacher post for the Undergraduate ARB/RIBA Part 1 and MArch Part 2 programmes.

You will have RIBA Part 2 or equivalent and will be able to demonstrate expertise in architectural design and construction technology. You will contribute to studio teaching and will be expected to play a leading role in developing the School’s response to the Climate Emergency and issues arising from the Hackitt Report.

You will be able to demonstrate a commitment to architectural education and academic scholarship, and a broad portfolio of practice and/or scholarly activity. As a future member of Pedagogy, Practice and Scholarship Group, you will be working closely with colleagues to develop your scholarship and contribute to the School’s ambition in this area. This will include developing collaborations with national and international partners, presenting your work at key fora, disseminating your work using a variety of media to target a wider audience and generating impact through your work. The School is a UK leader in pedagogical and practice-based research, hence a willingness to engage in knowledge exchange with educators and practitioners in the built environment to develop scholarship is also a priority.

SSoA is a large, lively and diverse School with a strong social and ethical tradition, as befits a School within a Faculty of Social Sciences. The Architect’s Journal Top 100 Survey rates us as the best UK School outside London and we are the only School consistently within the top five as ranked across all the main UK league tables. SSoA came first in Architecture in the Guardian University League Tables for 2019. The 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) has confirmed the School´s position as a world-class centre for architectural research, with 48% of our research assessed as 4*, representing world-leading quality and outstanding impact, and 37% as 3* (Internationally excellent). We have consistently been rated in the last two decades in the top 5 for research in the UK.
