This year’s theme, “Imagination for Opportunity,” focuses on the role of creativity in developing solutions to global challenges, including climate action, the housing crisis, and social inclusion.

Key Events of Irish Design Week 2024

The weeklong programme will feature workshops, panel discussions, and exhibitions with leading voices in design. Notable participants include Irish-American fashion designer KidSuper (Colm Dillane); Lesley Lokko, founder and Chair of the African Futures Institute (AFI); co-founders of leading Dutch graphic design firm THONIK, Thomas Widdershoven and Nikki Gonnissen; and Sir David King, head of the Climate Change Advisory Group (CCAG). These events aim to spark discussions on innovative and creative solutions to pressing global issues.

Design Diplomacy Events

Each day of the week will host a ‘Design Diplomacy’ event, where an Irish designer meets an international designer for a curated discussion inspired by a unique card game format originally created by Helsinki Design Week. Themes include Interior Design & Architecture, Fashion Design, Experience Design, Climate Design Entrepreneurs, and Communication Design. Participating Irish designers include Oisín Lennon, founder and CEO of Danu Sports; Joanne Byrne, graphic designer; and designer and educator Lara Hanlon. International participants will include Dutch designer and architect Lars Courage and German virtual reality designer Cordula Hansen.
