&Tradition brings Verner Panton’s masterpieces into today’s home

You need to be brave to work with Verner Panton’s designs. Such an iconic figure who envisioned the coming of a brand-new era in home decoration deserves a lot of care, sensitivity, and competence.

So it was only through working in close collaboration with the Panton family and studying the Panton archives that the Danish brand &Tradition came up with new colors and finishes to review the Master’s super famous Flowerpot.

Such attention and care are due, especially when it comes to the chromatic palette: Verner Panton’s designs originated from the desire to craft pieces that trigger feelings rather than serving solely as functional objects so colors and finishes were not just add-ons but integral elements of the design.

Indeed, for the Danish master choosing a color was a key decision: one that would have a strong impact on the perception of the object, its meaning, and its function.

Working with the family and  archive

First designed in 1968, Panton’s Flowerpot lamp is an enduring classic: a playful yet minimal product that remains among the most iconic works of Danish design.

In close collaboration with the Panton family, &Tradition welcomed five new, vibrant colors to the Flowerpot range in February 2023. Alongside this palette, refresh is also a reissued Panton original, a 1970s black and white wave pattern.

The work with the family, the archive, and Carin Panton’s collaboration brought the introduction of new bold finishes to her father’s design: Dark Plum, Swim Blue, Cobalt Blue, Tangy Pink Vermillion Red, and the Pattern design.

The choice was the result of a careful selection process and a balance between contemporary trends and respect for Panton’s research, without forgetting the development of the different typological variations of the Flowerpot: from the table lamp to the wall lights and the pendant formation.

A smart visualization of Flower Power’s new values

Looking at the Flowerpot collection today is quite amazing. A single and very simple curved shape is the result of an abstract visualization of a flower bud. A smart intuition that says a lot about the time in which Panton was designing this lamp: tapping into the values of the Flower Power pacifist movement, the Danish master translated them into a physical object to put in everyone’s home.

The repetition of the modular element in all the variations completes a collection of products to respond to any function. Moreover, the new colors show the Flowerpot series with new inspiration for its use, both individually and in colorful compositions.

Color is the leading theme also for &Tradition others Spring novelties. The PantonTopan range is presented in three new shades. Concerning contemporary products, Setago lamps by Jaime Hayon and Lato tables by Nichetto are proposed in new finishes. While Hee Welling’s best-seller Drip table collection comes in new variants.

This Denmark exhibition, staged at Alcova during the Milan Design Week 2023, wishes to offer an overview. Through 15 selected objects, of how contemporary Danish creators. And companies interpret today the key values coming from their national heritage.
