A reimagined campus for Ford in Dearborn, Michigan, and a climate resilient vision for Manhattan’s Financial District and Seaport district are among the winning projects recognized in this year’s annual award program conducted by the New York chapter of The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA- NY). The program, from the ASLA-NY Chapter Awards Committee, judged submitted landscape projects on their “quality of design and execution, innovation, and impact on community and the profession.”
This year’s jury panel was made up of interdisciplinary professionals—landscape architects, planners, and project managers—from the Colorado chapter of ASLA. The jury selected six projects to receive Honor awards, along with 14 Merit winners. One entry was chosen by the ASLA-NY Executive Board as the Board Choice Award. Categories for Honor awards include General Design; Residential Design; Community Impact; Unbuilt; and Analysis, Planning, Research and Communications.
A Design Awards Ceremony honoring the projects and the firms will take place on April 19 at the Center for Architecture in New York.

Ferry Point Park East Waterfront | Quennell Rothschild & Partners
Quennell Rothschild & Partners was contracted by the New York City Parks Department’s Design Excellence Program to envision Ferry Point Park East Waterfront. The swath of waterfront land in the Bronx was previously a dumping ground for trash. The project concentrated on habitat creation, resiliency, and wetland restoration. It has been reimagined by the designers as a location offering educational opportunities and health benefits to the local, underserved community.

Reimagine Middle Branch Plan | James Corner Field Operations
Middle Branch Plan is a community-driven project in Baltimore connecting the south part of the city with parks, trails, and other programs. In addition to conceiving new landscape opportunities the plan also restore the shoreline and wetlands and expands the intertidal habitat.
Community Impact
Johnny Hartman Plaza Playful Art Installation | MRC Recreation
In response to a play workshop with children from the West Harlem community, MRC Recreation designed the Johnny Hartman Plaza Playful Art Installation. The immersive playscape was realized to coincide with the Lego Group’s 90th anniversary. Its climbable and interactive play objects are painted with bright colors that are reminiscent of Lego toys.

Ford Campus Master Plan | Snøhetta
The master plan for the Ford campus in southeast Michigan is the result of a 2-year research and planning effort between Snøhetta and employees at Ford. When realized it will bring new workspaces, park space, and improved transit options to the car manufacturer’s campus.
Large-scale Residential
House on the Bluff | LaGuardia Design Group
LaGuardia Design Group planted native vegetation and installed a series of elevated walkways on a residential property in Montauk that borders a nature preserve. The carefully sited landscape elements blend with the natural surroundings and connect the entire property from the house down to the beachfront.

The Financial District and Seaport Climate Resilience Master Plan | SCAPE
Also a recipient in the Analysis, Planning, Research and Communications category is SCAPE’s climate-resilient plan for Manhattan’s Financial District and Seaport. After considering public feedback about the sites, the design team envisioned a master plan that considers flood mitigation, restored ecosystems, as well as public amenities.
