Design features

The scope of the design includes reinterpreting the historic Niagara Falls Power Company hydraulic canal stretch

and converting it into a pedestrian walkway.

The intervention will illustrate the long history of large-scale electricity production and its central role in the development of American society.

An observation deck has been planned at the borders of Niagara Falls State Park.

which will provide visitors with panoramic views of the American Rapids and Goat Island.

The design aims to maintain the existing tree coverage while increasing the appeal of this outdoor space.

In addition, DiFranco Park will be redeveloped to include a mixed-use pavilion and spaces for recreation, gathering and outdoor activities.

The $12 million project stems from a strategic plan to redevelop many of the city’s many vacant or underutilized state-owned properties.

It includes several temporary interventions focused on the northern

and southern fringes of the proposed Downtown Niagara Falls Heritage Park,

All of which aim to create a vibrant downtown to draw visitors

and residents to both the city and the stunning scenery of Niagara Falls.

In 2021, PAU also shared its plans for the urban design and economic development of the downtown Niagara Falls area as part of its strategy to grow as a global tourism destination.
