Weathering
2026 Winter Olympics
Medal design
The Olympic Games, held every four years in a different city around the world.
It's a competition for athletes to be the best players in the world. Athletes repeat the same training for years or even decades to achieve their best result at the Olympics. This behavior is very much similar to natural weathering erosion which rocks are cut over hundreds, thousands, and tens of thousands of years and repeatedly weathered and eroded by external factors such as water, waves, and wind.
Cortina, where the 2026 Winter Olympics will be hosted is located in the Dolomites. This mountain chain was formed tens of millions of years ago through weathering and erosion like other mountain chains in the world. The same goes for the efforts of athletes. They prepare for the Olympics, endure, persevere, and persist in the same routine repeated over and over till the Olympics.
This medal design is inspired by the Dolomites mountain chains. The dented traces contain the players' constant repeated practice, hard work, and blood, sweat, and tears. This medal is extruded by press machining and then precision machined by CNC and then hundreds of hammering processes are applied manually to the surface of the medal by artisans.
Medal ribbons are made of Ocean bound plastic which sustainable material.
