A New Phase in Makkah’s Urban Renewal

The Al-Zuhur Clearance marks a new stage in the broader restructuring plan led by the Royal Commission for Makkah City and the Holy Sites. Previously, they defined the boundaries of the Al-Zuhur area in preparation for removal.
The project aims to improve the urban landscape and enhance living conditions. Additionally, it intends to integrate the city’s informal neighborhoods into Makkah’s long-term urban vision. Authorities have coordinated with residents to ensure the evacuation process includes compensation. They also provide clear procedural guidance for the Al-Zuhur Clearance.

Al-Khalidiyah Next in Line

After clearing Al-Zuhur, city authorities plan to target the nearby Al-Khalidiyah district next, continuing their push to reorganise informal areas throughout Makkah on a large scale. Residents may wonder if Al-Khalidiyah will undergo a similar clearance process to Al-Zuhur Clearance.

ArchUp continues to monitor the progress of this project. This is part of its commitment to documenting the architectural and urban development journey of the holy city.
