Architect Job: Assistant Lecturer in Architectural Technology

Description of Post

It is expected that the lecturer will teach core Architectural Technology modules primarily on the 4-year Level 8 BSc (Hons) in Architectural Technology and the common entry 3-year Level 7, BSc in Construction.

The lecturer will also be required to teach common or interdisciplinary CAD/ construction technology subjects to students on the Level 7 and Level 8 full-time programmes in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Building Engineering and Renewable Energy, Fire Safety Engineering and Quantity Surveying, as well as on other part-time courses in the Department of Civil Engineering & Construction.

The delivery will include project-based and blended learning, with online learning by agreement.

The lecturer will join an enthusiastic team engaging in collaborative learning.

Pedagogic staff development is encouraged, and cognate qualification progression is also supported.

A significant part of the lectureship responsibility involves research, and it is expected that the successful candidate will bring a strong interest and capacity for research in their field.

Appointment(s) may be on a permanent/fixed term/pro-rata/part-time basis as required at Assistant Lecturer level. A panel will be created for any vacancies that may arise in the future.

Please note: The postholder will be based at the ATU Donegal, Letterkenny Campus.

Essential Qualifications

Minimum

  • An Honours degree (2.2 or higher) in Architectural Technology, Architecture or other relevant built environment discipline Level 8 degree as specified in the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)] or equivalent.
  • Three years relevant post graduate experience, i.e. 3 years relevant experience having gained the qualifications above.

Desirable

  • A post-graduate or master’s degree in architectural technology or other relevant area.
  • Expert knowledge of construction technology, current Building Regulations and regulatory environment.
  • Expert knowledge of emerging technologies including BIM (Building Information Modelling), Lean Construction and Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) as they apply to architecture, construction and other engineering disciplines.
  • Proficiency in architectural sketching, drawing and model making, both physical and computer generated.
  • Expertise in software prevalent in the industry such as AutoCAD, Revit and other graphics packages/plug-ins to include use of VR (Virtual Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality).
  • Professional membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Relevant teaching and research experience.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and an ability to work in teams.
