Hays are working in partnership with the estates function of a major, prestigious, central government department, in seeking a Head of Architecture and Conservation.

This is a senior role and a rare opportunity to join one of the most well-known government departments, that consists of numerous buildings, almost all of which are listed. The department manages all property and engineering infrastructure across the Estate, which consists of numerous main buildings, some of which are very high profile, including a UNESCO World Heritage site. Annual budget surpasses several hundred million pounds, and is distributed across over one hundred ongoing capital projects and operations, with several of these planned over the next decade to refurbish some historic buildings as well as replace ageing engineering infrastructure.

In the role, as Head of Architecture and Conversation, you will oversee the strategy for building conservation, provide subject matter expertise, team leadership and keep the long-term programme of conservation works up to date. The post holder will work closely with complementary posts including the Principal Architect and will eventually become the sole professional head of all conservation architecture. They are seeking an exceptional individual, with balanced professional and personal skills, who will be excited to work in a role that will have a lasting legacy across this most-important government departments.

The role will be offered on a hybrid basis. Flexible working patterns are also not-discouraged. The office is based in central London, and you will be regularly expected to attend site meetings.

Benefits are extensive and include Civil Service Pension Scheme, generous starting annual leave which increases with tenure, many balanced working and family-centric offerings, and excellent training and development opportunities across the board. Salary is £65,000 to £77,000. with the final offered figure depending on experience and skill-set.
