Birmingham City University

Birmingham City University (BCU) is a large, dynamic institution that is at the heart of the UK’s second largest city. Through the education it provides to its 30,000 strong student body, the societal contribution of its alumni, the strength of its research discoveries, the impact of its knowledge exchange activities and the contribution it makes to the regional economy, there can be little doubt that BCU is a force to be reckoned with.  BCU is moving closer to the completion of its 2025 Strategy and it will soon welcome its new Vice Chancellor David Mba, which means that this is a tremendously exciting time to be joining.

The Heads of College roles are new posts, devised to deliver the strategic outcomes of the University Strategy and Faculty plans. This entails leading and managing the development, implementation, delivery, performance and review of all College level business as it relates to learning and teaching; student experience; research and innovation, international recruitment and transnational education, enterprise, and knowledge exchange. Post-holders will lead and manage their respective College’s resources effectively and efficiently at all stages and levels including  people, financial and physical. They will also contribute to cross Faculty projects and strategic themes, supporting matrix working and inclusion, equality and diversity.

Applicants should have a track record of clear and effective leadership in a university setting. They should be collegiate and ambitious, with a keen understanding of the prevalent strategic environment for Higher Education and how it affects teaching, learning and research. People and resource management is of course central to this, but personal buy in to the inclusion, equality and diversity agendas is also critical. Furthermore, a passion for the contribution that BCU can make to society in all of its activities must underpin motivation and drive.
