Updates on engineering and architecture jobs available around the world
IPA Architects Dar Es Salaam office was established 30 years ago as a branch office of a London firm. But since that time has grown to become one of the foremost architectural practices in Tanzania. Our portfolio of completed projects includes landmark government buildings (e.g. State House, Presidents Office), the new international Dar es Salaam airport terminal, as well as award-winning office buildings and schools. Current projects include the new Ministry of Finance headquarters in the government capital city of Dodoma, various educational projects, new hotel & apartment projects, and a luxury lodge in the Serengeti. As a result of a vibrant growing economy in one of the powerhouses of East Africa, we have a very exciting list of upcoming projects to look forward to, in a variety of different sectors.
Despite our significant workload, our Dar es Salaam office typically revolves around a multicultural core of around 15 professionals. Where any employed expat architects are expected to work with the most talented local young architects available. This is where we find ourselves now and, in order to drive our firm forward we are now looking for an experienced project architect to join our Dar team to help oversee one or more of our current and upcoming projects. Very strong design skills are an absolute must. The principal driving force for our office is to endeavour to execute the best possible modern architecture in a tropical East African setting – sensitive to the local climate and culture. The central core of that strategy is based around our talented designers, both local and foreign.
Any applicants must not only be able to clearly demonstrate their design skills through their portfolio, but also have a solid list of completed construction projects behind them.
Tanzania is a fascinating and beautiful country and has so much to offer the right candidate. Our office in Dar is a friendly and vibrant workplace where everyone works shoulder to shoulder to execute the best possible buildings that we can.
This is a full-time position. Expatriate package would include accommodation, periodic flights home, medical insurance, and a competitive salary package, which would be commensurate with the skills and experience level of the successful candidate. Normal work permits in Tanzania are for 2 years, so anyone thinking about applying for this position should take that as a benchmark and as a guide as to what the preliminary contract duration would be.
Over the years, we at IPA have employed many expatriate architects in our Dar office and, it would be safe to say that all of them have found the experience highly rewarding and, when they do leave Tanzania, do so with many great memories, both professionally, as well as from their experiences of the people and country at large.
