Islington Design Review Panel – Open Call for Panel Members
Islington is home to many beautiful and iconic buildings from the medieval Charterhouse to its Georgian terraces and squares to Lubetkin’s council housing. We want to ensure that any new buildings in the borough reflect Islington Council’s commitment to the securing the highest standards of architecture and design and to delivering the best possible built and natural environment for local people.
To help us with this task, Islington Council is renewing its Design Review Panel.
The council seeks a diverse range of specialists who are experts in their respective fields within the built and natural environment professions, and who are reflective of Islington’s richly varied communities and neighbourhoods. The council is particularly keen to encourage applications from people who are underrepresented in these professions to ensure that membership of the Panel is representative of the people of Islington.
We seek applicants from a range of disciplines from architecture, urban design and heritage to those with expertise in retrofitting, energy efficiencies, engineering, and sustainability.
Applicants will be selected against the following criteria:
- Level of technical and professional expertise;
- Experience of high density and high quality inner urban contexts;
- Demonstrable commitment to design and technical excellence and innovation; and
- A commitment to ensuring an inclusive built environment for everyone who lives in the borough.
Reviews are held twice monthly – a maximum of 4 per month, running for half a day each. Panel members are matched according to the skills and specialisms required for each project. The reviews involve considerable dedication from panel members given the complexity of the projects being reviewed. You should expect to attend between 4 to 6 reviews per year.
