Updates on engineering and architecture jobs available around the world

We are looking to appoint an experienced creative technology focussed design lecturer, teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Located in the Architecture and Design subject area, you will be responsible for teaching, curriculum development, research and scholarship.  Primarily working with Product Design and Design Engineering students, your role will lead the delivery of a range of practical design skills such as drawing, prototyping, computer aided design (CAD), computer aided manufacturing (CAM), and physical computing, as well as integrating contemporary and future-focussed fabrication methods and practices.

Working collaboratively with the Course Team, the Product Design and Design Engineering Lecturer will help to develop a strong culture of experimentation with technology and contribute to the development and expansion of the university’s technology, making, and fabrication facilities.

The ideal candidate will contribute to, and lead, research and knowledge exchange activities across disciplines within and beyond the school and university.  You will also bring specialist and creative expertise in material innovation and sustainable systems, manufacturing, physical and digital fabrication, helping to inform student approaches to design, technology, industry, and sustainability.

To be successful in this post, you should have:

  • Up-to-date product and industrial design knowledge, including contemporary professional and vocational advancements (including design theories, trends and practices and their impacts on the design industry). These include human-centred design methods, sustainable and regenerative design, and CMF in the design process.
  • Competent user of industry-standard design software such as 2D communication and presentation software (Adobe Creative Suite), 3D parametric CAD design tools (SolidWorks or Fusion 360 or similar) and 3D rendering tools.
  • Making skills and ability to teach in model-making and prototyping, ideally with experience in 3D printing, CNC machining, and other prototyping and manufacturing techniques.
  • A relevant degree in Product/Engineering Design or a closely related subject and a postgraduate qualification in the relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience of, or potential to develop, quality research, consultancy or knowledge exchange activity relevant to the needs of the School.

In addition, our Lecturers act as personal tutors to provide pastoral care to our students.  The role requires listening, interpersonal and pastoral care skills to deal with sensitive issues concerning students, appreciate individual students’ needs and circumstances, and refer students as appropriate to the specialist services that can provide further help.

This post is offered on a 1.0 full-time equivalent basis, however we welcome applications from candidates seeking job share.  We have a wide range of benefits including: opportunities for some remote working, generous pension scheme, and additional time off during the Christmas period.
