FACULTY OF ENGINEERING
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate must possess a Ph.D. in Geomatics Engineering or Geodesy or Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)
Candidates should also possess:
- Teaching experience acquired in an academic environment at the tertiary level
- Good record of research and publications in reputable, peer-reviewed journals
- Experience in supervision of student projects
- Experience in integrating theory and practice
- Proven ability to manage large groups of students
- Proficient in supervising research in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in at least one of the following:
- Geodesy
- GNSS
- Geomatics Engineering
- Hydrographic Surveying
- Skilled in scripting, specifically in relation to MATLAB
Candidates with the following would have an advantage:
- Membership in a surveying/geomatics- related internationally recognised professional association
- Successful supervision of postgraduate research students
- Evidence of liaising with local and international agencies so as to attract projects and sponsorship
- Deep knowledge of Hydrographic Surveying
The following would be considered assets:
- Certificate in university teaching and learning
- Significant attraction of research funding
- Some administrative experience (coordinating courses and functioning as an examiner)
- Evidence of providing support for staff’s ongoing research and professional development
Special Responsibilities
- Developing, coordinating, and delivering courses, teaching materials and/or programmes in geodesy, global navigation satellite systems, mathematics for geomatics engineering students and hydrographic surveying at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Supervising undergraduate and postgraduate student research
- Serving on committees at the department, faculty and university levels
- Advising undergraduate students
- Establishing research programmes that lead to publications in refereed journals
- Attracting external research and development funding
- Supporting the department’s outreach profile
- Engaging in community outreach initiatives
- Participating in departmental and faculty seminars
- Providing support for ongoing departmental research and development
- Supporting professional development of current academic staff
Personal Attributes
