Role Overview

CEG Digital wishes to engage the services of an Online Tutor for their MA in Landscape Architecture Studies run in partnership with Arts University Bournemouth. Online Tutors play a central role in the day-to-day success and vibrancy of the university’s online courses and are a consistent presence in the modules to which they are assigned and are usually the first point of contact for academic queries from students. Each Online Tutor will have a group of up to thirty students. This is a flexible, part-time role and it is estimated that during a typical week, each student group may need approximately ten hours of online tutoring, although flexibility is required in order to accommodate busy periods such as assessment. Note that there will be key dates and contact points you will be required to adhere to which are driven by assessment dates in the course calendar. Full details will be provided prior to the start of the module.

The Course

The MA Landscape Architecture Studies course has been structured to provide students with critical and creative thinking and landscape architectural skills framed within social, ecological, and environmental contexts of contemporary regional and global relevance. Focusing on the integration of theory and practice, students will investigate a range of topics at the interfaces between people, landscapes, cities, and nature, and develop understanding of the problems and opportunities facing landscape change in both urban and rural landscapes, covering issues that relate to both individual placemaking and wider infrastructure. Landscape Architecture as a subject can connect people across disciplines, cultures, and communities with the common goal of creating places that have a positive impact on society, culture, and the environment.

The Module

This vacancy is for the first module taken by students as part of the MA. The module introduces the course and key themes and practices in landscape architecture. The course ethos will be established alongside aspirations of shaping meaningful and resilient landscapes and communities of the future. Students will consider and articulate their own position and approach to these themes, including their principles, intentions, motives, and views (Manifesto), to include examples of critical case study analysis of selected landscape/placemaking precedents.

Future Modules

Expressions of interest are also welcome from applicants with expertise relevant to future modules of the course, with contracted start dates in March, May, and July 2023: Module 2: What is Landscape: Analysis, Evaluation and Representation, Module 3: Landscape & Culture: History, Philosophy and Society and Module 4: The Big Picture: Landscape as Infrastructure and Ecosystem.
