An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious leader to join our team at the Department of Architecture and Built Environment, Faculty of Engineering.
Our Department of Architecture and Built Environment is one of the largest schools/units of architecture in the UK with approximately 1000 students across undergraduate and postgraduate building engineering, architecture, and urban design programmes. We are looking for a proven leader who is passionate about educating the next generation of architects and built environment professionals to design and establish a new postgraduate masters course in the fields of Urban Transformation, Smart Cities, and/or Intelligent Mobility.
We are seeking to appoint an experienced senior academic/practitioner with a strong track record of academic leadership in research and teaching in the fields of Urban Transformation, Smart Cities, and/or Intelligent Mobility. Our ideal candidate will demonstrate a knowledge of professional accreditation, curriculum development and subject expertise to deliver exceptional student experience and satisfaction. Our ideal candidate will have an extensive track record of impactful research projects and outcomes in her/his field, and demonstrable ability to support a vibrant and extensive research culture working collaboratively with colleagues and other stakeholders. We are looking for someone able to establish credibility as a leader in this field and work cooperatively with others, building strong alliances and trust with colleagues and stakeholders, and particularly supporting early career colleagues.
The successful candidate will be joining a top 100 department/school of architecture in the world according to the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023, which positions us as 5th in the UK. We are ranked within the top 10 departments/schools of architecture in the UK in all major guides (Times Good University Guide and the Complete University Guide). Our Department was ranked 1st in the Russell Group universities for ‘overall satisfaction’ in Architecture at the National Student Survey 2022, and we were voted top 3 architecture school/department by UK top 100 architectural practices. Our Faculty ranked 7th in the UK for research power in the Research Excellence Framework 2021 (REF), which takes into account a combination of the quality of research, international impact, critical mass and sustainability. 90%* of our research is classed as ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’, with 100%* recognised globally.
This post is offered on a permanent basis. Hours of work are full time (35.25 hours). Job share arrangements may be considered.
