health center by BAAS arquitectura
BAAS arquitectura has realized ‘Cap Cote’, a health center in a small municipality in Barcelona. The project was born from the desire to redefine the quality of the interior space, introducing an architecture that intrinsically integrates with the scale of the surroundings. The scheme is located at street level, employing a three-nave section resembling a chapel, where the gaze is directed toward the sky. Two lines of consultation rooms frame a higher waiting room that receives light from above.
The main facade of the building shields itself with opacity from the road, exuding a more introverted character that fulfills the need for privacy and seclusion. Although the space may appear hermetic from the outside with its austere and robust silhouette, a calm porch reception gradually welcomes visitors to the inviting interior. Local materials and traditional building techniques were applied throughout the building, favoring a more temperate climate.

a calm & cool interior all year round
The access route is handled with gentle gestures serving as an extension to the street, where long benches allow visitors to rest and take a breath of fresh air in the shade. Entering the building, a vaulted area introduces guests to the nave, thoroughly treated with lighting techniques that encourage them to discover further. The materials were informed by local architecture, including ceramic brick for the walls, concrete in its purest condition, and varnished pine wood.
The entire structure by BAAS arquitectura (see more here) was built by local craftsmen with the clear intention of lasting over time. Inside, the material and thickness of the walls enhance thermal inertia generating a pleasant temperature all year round. Thanks to the sealed facade, the building is protected from hot sun rays, while ventilation runs naturally by opening the high windows to the north, cooling and renewing the air inside.
