Architecture Competition: Concéntrico 08 – Open Calls
Concéntrico 08, Logroño’s International Architecture and Design Festival, will be held in the Spanish city from 1 to 6 September 2022. The eighth edition of the festival grows in two days to propose new collective uses that strengthen the idea of community in public space.
Today we open the three international competitions, whose deadline for submission is 11 March 2022 at 14:00 hours (GMT+1), which increase their amount with prizes of 7500€ and maintain the digital format for submission on the Concéntrico website.
The street is the protagonist
At the festival we have explored squares, passages, courtyards, riversides, promenades, parks, parking areas… In 2022 one of the competitions will make a street the protagonist, its relationship with its surroundings, with the neighbours and citizens who live in the area.
It is Obispo Bustamante Street, an area where housing, institutional, administrative and educational buildings such as Rafael Moneo’s Logroño Town Hall or the La Rioja School of Design converge.
This relationship between uses and flows, as well as the courtyard of the adjoining dwellings, make the environment a space of opportunity to rethink the street as the backbone of community life in cities.
Concéntrico moves on to Portugal
For the first time in Concéntrico, Bodegas LAN, Sandeman and Sogrape propose a competition with a double location that makes visible a similar reality in neighbouring countries, Spain and Portugal: the respect for the landscape, biodiversity and wine culture that are present in Viña Lanciano together with the river Ebro in La Rioja and in Quinta do Seixo on the river Duero (Douro) in the North of Portugal.
The competition in Viña Lanciano + Quinta do Seixo seeks a unique solution or a dialogue between both territories that proposes two installations in these unique territories of high landscape and ecological value.
Festival Pavilion
The Pavilion in the Plaza de Escuelas Trevijano is already a tradition in Concéntrico, with seven calls since 2015 it has received more than 700 proposals, it is a classic in which proposals from more than 50 countries have participated. This year it renews its commitment to a relevant area of Logroño, next to the Tourist Office and the Amós Salvador Hall, in a square that extends towards the pedestrian areas of Once de Junio and Portales streets.
