Utopian and Sacred Architecture Studies (USAS)

22 November، 2023 @ 8:00 am - 24 November، 2023 @ 5:00 pm

Utopian and Sacred Architecture Studies (USAS): In a time of immense strife, people feel overwhelmed and discouraged by the state of humanity, especially considering problems like climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the scarcity of resources in some parts of the world. However, discouragement can drive us to create positive change and develop a sense of optimism. It is through struggle that humanity evolves; we are a species used to continually striving. Having a goal or Utopia to strive towards provides incentive and is crucial to success. History holds many inspirational monuments that our ancestors created in efforts to build their ideal world.

Examples like the Pisa Cathedral, which showcases many different architectural styles, and the Camposanto Monumentale, an immaculate Gothic architecture, show the lengths our ancestors went to in order to visualize and construct utopian societies. IEREK is collaborating with the University of Pisa, Italy, to host the 3rd international conference on Utopian and Sacred Architecture Studies. This conference is dedicated to exploring the various theories and practices involved in creating Utopias and their successors, with focuses in a variety of topics including politics, social sciences, and arts. Our aim is to understand Utopia’s origin and its continued influence throughout the centuries, and to analyze its relation to religious, cultural, and social ideals. By joining us, participants have the optimal opportunity to discuss and debate Utopia and its successor from our ancestors to the present. Utopian and Sacred Architecture Studies (USAS)
