Architecture Competition: For the past five years, the nefarious American Institute of Steel Construction’s Forge Prize has challenged upcoming architects to design a captivating prospect of the future – and for 2024, the competition is inviting a broader selection of designers to join in. What will our future look like? What will its inhabitants build? And where will they live, work, and rest? On top of that, this year, we call for not only practitioners of architecture but also educators and graduated students to suggest potential replies to these inquiries.

“The future belongs to those who concoct it, and the Forge Prize gives a special chance to think big and come up with something revolutionary,” said Jeanne Homer, AIA, Senior Architect for University Relations of AISC. “I taught architecture for 20 years and I’ve noticed many of my students create groundbreaking concepts in the class. I’m delighted to open the Forge Prize to the next generation of imaginative persons and their inspiring mentors.” Established in 2018 by the American Institute of Steel Construction, the Forge Prize may bestow recognition upon original upcoming architects, teachers at universities, and graduate students for their ideas which embraces novelties in steel as essential structural elements.

Competitors, either individuals or teams, must be designers based in the U.S. and one of the following: emerging practicing architects (those who have been licensed for less than 10 years or are on the path to licensure); tenured or tenure-track educators who have taught for less than 10 years at a U.S. university architecture program; adjunct architecture educators, who have taught for less than 10 years and have been licensed for less than 10 years or are on the path to licensure; or graduate-level architecture students currently enrolled in a U.S. university architecture program.
