Overview

The Future Climate Future Home Design Competition invites designers, architects, and planners to envision urban solutions adapted to future climate conditions. Organized by the Australian Urban Design Research Centre (AUDRC) in collaboration with the University of Western Australia School of Design, this competition challenges participants to develop climate-sensitive urban design strategies that address extreme temperature scenarios projected for the year 2099.

Climate change discussions often evoke alarm, using words like “catastrophe” and “urgency,” which can sometimes lead to denial or inaction. A major obstacle to meaningful change is the lack of visionary designs that inspire public imagination toward sustainable, climate-adapted futures. This competition seeks to bridge that gap by fostering innovative urban solutions that can withstand the environmental challenges of the future.
