Before it became John F Kennedy International Airport, it was known commonly as Idlewild Airport. The airport was renamed as tribute to the president after his assassination. Idlewild was known for some very creative and interesting architecture, such as the Pan Am Worldport, and the gigantic stained-glass façade for American Airlines. TWA’s Flight Center terminal is the only surviving building as JFK undergoes extensive remodeling.
