The salary range will be £40,928 – £44,388 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

Industry Tutor in Structural Design Practice The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7.

UCL Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (CEGE), is a multidisciplinary department with a long tradition of excellence in teaching and research. CEGE holds the Royal Academy of Engineering award of ‘Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Building Design’ jointly with the Bartlett, the UCL Faculty of the Built Environment. The MEng Engineering & Architectural Design is a new four year full-time integrated masters that aims to challenge students to develop a critical, independent, experimental and technically rigorous approach to architectural, environmental and structural design and engineering in buildings. We are seeking Industry Tutors in Structural Design Practice to engage in structural design teaching and tutoring in the studio environment, as part of an interdisciplinary team with architects and building services/environmental designers and professional engineers.

The main purpose of the Design studio courses is to promote the integrated design approach through the whole design process, from an idea’s inception and investigation to the detailed stages of design, whereby architectural structural and comfort design requirements are addressed in a holistic manner. The Industry Tutors will mainly be involved in teaching structural Design to years 2, 3 and 4 of the cohort and helping the students integrate structural design in their projects within the Design Practice Studio. 

One posts at 0.3FTE (1.5 days per week) and two posts of 0.15FTE (0.75 days a week) are available from 1 August 2022 until 30 June 2023 in the first instance.

The ideal candidate will have professional practice experience and excellent knowledge of analysis and design strategies and tools applied to structural and architectural engineering. Chartership of relevant UK institution or equivalent, and proficiency in simple and more complex computer packages for structural and integrated design, would be an advantage.
