The International Design Competition for city center Square of Rahovec is organized within the project Leading Urban Change in Rahovec through revitalization of the city center Square. The project is funded by the Municipality of Rahovec and implemented with the technical support of UN-Habitat. the most purpose of the project is to market urban regeneration and sustainable urban development also as inclusive public space by exercising transparent and innovative methods of participatory planning and style for the city center Square of Rahovec, a strategic a part of the municipal territory.

The municipality of Rahovec is found within the western region of the country, covering a neighborhood of 275.89 km² and supported the last census of 2011, the municipality features a total population of 56,208 inhabitants. Rahovec features a good geographical position with a continental climate and is understood for its vineyards and wines, developed agriculture, rich cultural and natural heritage, while the city center Square aims to become a point of reference for local and international tourism.

Through the international competition, the municipality of Rahovec aims to realize a sustainable design solution of the city center Square, which provides access to safe and healthy public spaces for all its citizens. It also aims to make new business opportunities and increase the standard of urban life, in line with the New Urban Agenda and therefore the Sustainable Development Agenda.
