Mecanoo and Meng Architects, along with Lola Landscape Architects, have been selected
As winners of a highly competitive international design competition for Shenzhen Guangming Valley in China.
The project is scheduled to be established to establish the first comprehensive national science center in the Greater Gulf Region.
The project attracts researchers and innovative talents from
all over the world to establish a world-leading research and innovation center.
The visual design proposed by the winning consortium embraces the unique
natural characteristics of the site and introduces an innovative concept called the ‘Science Forest’.
Located in the midst of Lian Tang Reservoir, Luo Village Reservoir,
and the valley space between them, Guangming Valley Scientist in Shenzhen benefits from its advantageous location.
It is surrounded by mountains and water, which provides an ecological advantage.
Led by distinguished firms Mecanoo Architects and Meng Architects,
In collaboration with Lola Landscape Architects,
the design team introduced the concept of a “coexistence valley” in their winning proposal.
This concept revolves around a strategy of “Temporal Recovery and Selective Build” with time as a vital component.
The plan includes a diverse public activity program known as “1001 Forest Gardens”
and three interrelated components: a public loop, a research center, and a natural oceanic layer.
The goal is to foster collaboration between the public and scientists,
nurture the growth of the forest and promote coexistence within the valley.
Covering an area of about 1.2 square kilometers,
the Shenzhen Guangming Scientist Valley will serve as the nucleus of an international science
and technology innovation hub spanning Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.
With its strategic location within a major scientific cluster and the natural elements surrounding it,
the project is set to become a global symbol of scientific progress and innovation.
