Public space on the territory of the former residence of the Commander of the Karafuto Governorate Security Forces.

The public space consists of three main elements: a historic building from the Japanese period, new pavilions along the street, and a pedestrian zone that links all the objects into a single, continuous and permeable structure.
Street Over Street.
The 3 timber framed pavilions are united by galleries. From the galleries there is an entrance to the workshops, showrooms, cafes, and exhibition halls.
This way the public space is organized in two levels, which refers to the traditional Japanese gallery house. The gallery organization of the pavilions also makes it possible to maximize the use of the building’s area and treat the future offices, workshops, and cafes as a full-fledged part of the street.
The pitch of the wooden columns and the placement of the technical units allow for maximum flexibility in the use of space.

Between the pavilions form chamber-like, landscaped courtyards.
In front of the historic building, a square is organized with a birch grove and a canopy for contemplating sakura blossoms.
