Suburban Spark: Unlocking Interdisciplinary Public Space Strategies for Neglected Urban Areas

This 10-day workshop will be a collaborative experience, allowing for various ways of involvement through presentations, seminars, collaborative work sessions, site visits, city trips, and more!

Furthermore, As the workshop is open to everyone (students, artists, researchers, professionals, and all other public space enthusiasts) we will be focusing on imagining interdisciplinary strategies for developing and improving public spaces in such neglected contexts.

What will we do?
During the workshop, we will focus on exploring the context of suburban public spaces and understanding the key challenges and opportunities these spaces provide. What role can interdisciplinary collaboration play in reimagining and revitalizing public spaces in such neglected areas? Additionally, Drawing from the diverse perspectives and professional fields of participants and instructors alike, we will work on establishing innovative strategies and interventions to create, maintain and govern inclusive and vibrant spaces.

Who will we work with?
A dense program of lectures, discussions, and group work sessions from some very exciting people will provide the opportunities to:
– learn from urban innovators looking for new ways of thinking and doing, like Damiano Cerrone from UrbanistAI (Finland),
– discuss with renowned professionals in the field of architecture and urbanism, such as Darko Radovic and Davisi Boontharm from co+re (Japan, Thailand),
– Meet with influential representatives of international organizations like Chiara Martinuzzi from UN-Habitat Global Public Space Programme (Kenya),
– explore community practices with Jia-Ping Lee from PlacemakingX (Malaysia),
