Urban density is a term used in urban planning and urban design to refer to the number of people inhabiting a given urbanized area. It is considered an important factor in understanding how cities function. This book complies population data from some of the most populated cities on the planet gathered for my thesis research.
By studying population densities across the globe I was able to attain a base line data set for researching my thesis, Living Urbanism. Through my research I found that although cities are growing physically in size, they are growing in density at an even faster rate. This increase in density within the city creates a unique set of problems that can only be understood when you are able to examine massive amounts of data. Urban Density takes this data and displays it in easier to understand information graphics and visual patterns. The text it self is also presented in an ever increasing density as the book progresses, further emphasizing the increase in density.
