Wooden floors types and method of installation

A floor finish is the covering of a floor with a material, in which the desired color,

appearance and texture is achieved.

It also checks the resistance to friction and any other requirements required by the place.

The location of the architectural element and the nature of its use,

as well as the cost of the material used, must be taken into account when selecting floor finishes.

Wooden floors are one of the most important types of floor coverings,

as they are characterized by luxury and elegance, and give the place a warm feeling.

Wood floors can generally be divided into:

Natural wood floors

This type of flooring is characterized by the fact that it gives the house a sense of warmth,

because it is a natural material, in addition to being a moisture insulator by nature, and it can be divided into:

Semi-natural wood floors

They are engineered wood floors like parquet, and the parquet is characterized by giving the home the feeling of luxury.

It is also distinguished by the fact that it consists of small pieces that can be made of geometric shapes,

giving a unique and beautiful character to the place.

The parquet is a wood treated with fumigation, which makes it repellent to insects.

It consists of 3 layers:

  • Basic substrate: from wood residues
  • Middle layer: made of thin wood
  • The outer layer: It is the facade and it is made of natural wood veneer

It is in the form of small plates (grittes) that are installed together to give certain shapes, such as:

Chevron. Fish bones

In this type, the grilles are installed side by side at an angle of 45° to give a shape resembling the skeleton of a fish.

Herringbone

The panels are stacked next to each other, taking into account that the angle is 90°

Industrial Wood Flooring

It is manufactured wood that has been manufactured to overcome the defects of natural wood,

such as the high cost and the vulnerability to moisture and others.

The main types are:

 MDF Flooring

It is a compressed wood with a high density, with a high abrasion and water resistance added to it.

It is what gives it the wooden shape, and is characterized by its multiple colors and modern shapes.

Vinyl

There are also some manufactured floors such as vinyl, which are plastic floors and used to cover the floor, where they are glued to tiles and give a look similar to parquet or wood.

Common timber installation methods

Installing musky wood floors (or Swedish wood)

We make a hover from white wood, a sector of 2 x 2, 1.5 x 3 or 2 x 3 inches,

in the entire perimeter of the room.

And fixing in the wall with iron bars every 1 meter, or with wood staves, buried in the wall every one meter

Then, white wood rails or feeders are fixed with the same hovering sector in the short direction of the room at distances of 40-50 cm from the axis to the axis.

The forages are connected to each other using a tamper of the same sector every 1 meter from the axle to the axle.

So that the place of bruising is in the distance between two exercises,

in the middle of the place of bruising, in the next distance between two exercises

All tamping, screeds, and screeds are painted with tar,

then filled between mounds and ramming with sand at a height of less than 1 cm from the dams.

Then the floorboards are installed from Moski or Sweed boards with a width of 8-12 cm and a thickness of 2-3 cm, separated by a tap and tongue method,

bearing in mind that the fixing screws are 4 cm inclined hidden needle screws (Urachelli).

After that, the floor is scraped and sanded and painted with transparent varnish.

Wood floors are used in bedrooms and the main halls, where a wood floor is intended,

while reducing the cost of the floor.

  • Parquet wood flooring installation

And in it, we make the hovering (fodder) and tamping, like what was mentioned previously in the floors of the Moski or Sweden.

However, wood boards of 10 x 2 cm are fixed on them, with spaces of 2 cm between them.

Then install the parquet pieces, and the parquet pieces are oak or beech wood in the shape of sevens and eights or any other shapes and sizes 22-30 cm long, 4-7.5 cm wide, and 2-4 cm thick.

It is a mortise and tongue detachment and is fixed with 4 cm inclined hidden needle screws (orchilli).

Then the floor is scraped and sanded and painted with transparent varnish,

and a wooden overall for the room must be made of the same quality as parquet wood, oak or beech, with a height of 15 cm.

Parquet floors are also used in bedrooms and main halls, where a wood floor is intended,

regardless of the high cost of the floor, and this type is called nail parquet.
