Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub Advances to Front-End Engineering Phase
The Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub is moving forward in its development as one of the world’s largest renewable hydrogen and ammonia facilities.

Project Overview
Located on the Red Sea coast, the hub integrates renewable power generation, water desalination plants, ammonia production lines, and an export terminal. At full capacity, the facility is expected to produce 400,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, which will be converted into over 2.2 million tonnes of green ammonia for export. The project features more than 4 gigawatts of electrolysis capacity, highlighting its ambitious scale in advancing green hydrogen production.

Engineering and Oversight Role
The project has entered the front-end engineering phase, during which all technical aspects of the design are reviewed. This includes ensuring compliance with international engineering standards, assessing safety and constructability, managing technical interfaces between systems, and providing recommendations for risk reduction and design optimization.

Significance and Impact
The Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub represents a major step in the transition to clean energy, demonstrating advanced planning for sustainable energy infrastructure. The focus on scalability, technical robustness, and operational sustainability underscores the project’s role in shaping the future of renewable hydrogen production.

✦ ArchUp Editorial Insight
The Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub demonstrates a large-scale integration of renewable energy, desalination, and ammonia production. The industrial layout is visually clear, with expansive spaces and strong contrasts between metallic structures and water-processing units. Engineering sophistication is evident, yet the project’s spatial and experiential aspects remain limited. Questions arise about human-scale interaction and contextual relevance with the Red Sea environment. Designers could improve the connection between circulation and functional zones Despite these issues, the hub reflects a forward-looking approach to sustainable energy infrastructure. It provides valuable insight into industrial design and technical coordination for large-scale projects.
