2x8x20 ACLA 2×8 20th Anniversary Celebration

Join us in celebrating the 20th anniversary of the 2×8 Student Exhibition, Competition, and Scholarship Fund. This year’s exhibition will feature 20 unique architecture and design programs throughout California. 2×8 was formed to introduce student work to the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction industries. To celebrate the academic diversity within California, 2×8 invites a broad range of programs from across the state to participate and presents students with an opportunity to receive scholarships at our annual awards ceremony. The opening reception is free to attend and open to all. Moreover, This year, the exhibition theme, “Reflection”, celebrates the program’s 20th anniversary and looks back on the accumulation of amazing student projects and exhibition designs.

In 2021, we were able to raise a total of $30,000 in scholarships. This allowed us to award merit-based scholarships to 11 winning student projects. For our 20th anniversary, we would like to surpass that amount and reach our goal of $50,000. As in past years, a respected jury will evaluate the submitted student projects.

Additionally, Each year the student competition is given a unique name and theme, and we encourage the schools to choose work that represents that theme. With the curatorial theme of the upcoming 2×8 Student Exhibition, we intend to create a dialogue around the topic of “Neighborhoods” with projects that respond to and engage with its surrounding environment and community. Moreover, Celebrating the state’s unequaled diversity in pedagogical directions, each of the participating academic programs selects two projects that epitomize their respective core visions around this theme.

Furthermore, Visit 2×8.org to see a preview of the student projects.

We are excited for this year’s exhibition ceremony to be hosted at the new AIA|LA + ACLA Center for Communities located in the historic West Adams District. Moreover, The new headquarters will be a center for conferences, meetings, and exhibitions accessible to the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and local communities.
