The AIA’s oldest chapter has announced the winners of the 2023 AIANY Design Awards. While all the submitting architects are members of the New York chapter of the professional organization, not all of the projects are located within the five boroughs, the Empire State, or even North America.
The 18 projects receiving recognition range in both location and scope, from the adaptive reuse of a ferry terminal in New York to villas in Lebanon located at the former site of a Syrian army camp. Divided into four categories (Architecture, Interiors, Projects, and Urban Design), the projects show off architectural innovation, sustainable practices, and the importance of preserving history.
Members of the jury for the 2023 AIANY Design Awards were:
- Ronnie Belizaire, Vice President, JLL
- Gia Biagi, Commissioner, Chicago Department of Transportation
- Angela Brooks, Managing Principal, Brooks + Scarpa
- Nondita Correa Mehrotra, Principal, RMA Architects; Director, Charles Correa Foundation
- Ashley Rao, Associate Principal, Leers Weinzapfel Associates
Below are the winning projects. The list kicks off with the Honor recipients, followed by the projects receiving Merit and Citation recognition in each category. Curious which projects won last year? You can view those here.
The AIANY Design Awards exhibition will be on view at the Center for Architecture from May 4 through September 2 later this year.
