The Department of Architecture in the College of Design at Iowa State University is seeking applicants for a full-time tenure-eligible faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Architecture. The successful Architecture, Design, and Digital Cultures candidate will join a community of progressive and globally engaged educators, practitioners, and researchers at a leading public land-grant institution. The Department of Architecture is committed to well-articulated and critical design pedagogies and practices. The successful candidate will contribute to these pedagogies and practices by teaching design studios at the graduate and undergraduate levels as well as lectures and/or seminars related to their scholarly areas of expertise. There are also opportunities to organize domestic and international travel with students and to teach interdisciplinary courses that engage students and faculty in other departments in the College of Design and across campus. Areas of scholarly focus might include: design representation; digital design pedagogies; data visualization; critical inquiry into digital cultures; extended reality (XR); spatial vision; modeling, simulation, and data analytics for design; and digital humanities. In order to address some of the pressing challenges of architectural education and practice, the search committee is particularly interested in receiving applications from candidates engaging with historically disenfranchised positions and communities.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates should hold a terminal degree at a Masters or Ph.D. level, or its equivalent, in Architecture or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant experience as a designer in any or several modes within a broad range of architectural practices.
- Studio teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate university level.
- Track record of impactful dissemination of work by means of peer-reviewed and peer-validated methods such as publications, exhibitions, conferences, symposia, data sets, software applications, and online platforms.
- Architecture licensure in the US or abroad.
