As an Associate Professor in Fire Safety Engineering, you will play a pivotal role in making buildings and infrastructure facilities safer, thereby preventing fire-related fatalities and smoke-related health risks. Each year, fires in buildings claim numerous lives, and the use of combustible materials and intricate designs necessitates ongoing research in fire safety. Furthermore, the evolving complexity of infrastructure facilities and the emergence of new propellants or batteries in vehicles and trains introduce new fire risks that require thorough investigation. 

Responsibilities and qualifications

Your overall focus will be to strengthen the department’s competences within Fire Dynamics using Computational Fluid Dynamics. You will work with nearby colleagues, and with both academic and industrial partners in Denmark as well as abroad.  

You should contribute to the development of the research group, including securing funding, conducting research, fostering innovation, and managing laboratory facilities. In addition to your research responsibilities, you will also be involved in teaching and mentoring students enrolled in BEng, BSc, MSc programs, as well as those pursuing continuing education in the Master of Fire Safety program. Furthermore, you will play a key role as a supervisor and co-supervisor for PhD students conducting research in the field of Fire Safety. 

You must have a proven track record within some of the following research fields: 

  • Fire dynamics and heat transfer
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS)
  • Fire Suppression Systems
  • Particle Image Velocimetry 

You must be responsible for the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both. 

As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship and documented didactic/pedagogic training.
