About the roles:
We are seeking two highly motivated and ambitious Research Associates to work within a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, led by Prof. Pete Walker in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering.
You will be joining a significant research project that aims to co-design, test, implement and monitor innovative prototype bio-based lower carbon solutions to improve the energy efficiency and resilience of social housing constructed by councils between 1920-1940. The longer-term goal of the project is to create scalable and transferable designs and solutions to retrofit a greater number of houses and different house types. As well as delivering high quality research, you will be expected to develop strong and effective working relationships with project teams, partners and external collaborators.
These are full-time positions, fixed term for 19 months from October 2023.

Our ideal candidates will have completed a PhD in a relevant built environment discipline, or closely related area, or have equivalent relevant experience and a professional qualification in design.

- Building materials testing and development in collaboration with stakeholders
- Hygrothermal and structural testing of prototype solutions
- Element and building performance monitoring and monitoring
- Co-design work to develop solutions
- Production of design information (drawings, physical models, digital models)
- Technical and detail design of potential solutions
- Production of construction information
- On site construction monitoring
- Life Cycle Analysis of solutions
