Updates on engineering and architecture jobs available around the world

This is an exciting opportunity for Building Science postgraduates and postdocs to lead a project that will apply cutting edge research in the built environment in a brand-new way to the energy efficiency industry. Based at Q-Bot and with full support from a group of UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering experts, the KTP Associate will develop an innovative Moisture Risk Assessment and Management tool to enable Q-Bot to manage moisture risks associated with retrofit insulation measures. This will enable the provision of long-term assurances to clients and industry partners, increasing sales and benefitting building occupants.

This will involve acquiring in-depth technical knowledge for the development of moisture protocols and a moisture risk management tool, working with a wide-ranging group of Q-Bot’s installers to identify and characterise the various methods and protocols currently being used and ensuring the outputs of the KTP are embedded into the existing practice processes of diagnosis and installation of floor insulation to generate real impact in Q-Bot’s fast-moving business environment.  Plus, the successful candidate will be part of the prestigious 40-year-old national Knowledge Transfer Partnership programme offering a dedicated professional development budget, a network of fellow Associates from many disciplines and training and mentoring opportunities. The Associate will also have the opportunity to write publications about their work alongside the academic and company team.

The post has funding for 24 months in the first instance, further funding to support the post may be available.

This role offers a springboard to a career in both industry and academia to postgraduates and postdocs in building science and related disciplines. The successful candidate will get to apply their STEM subject undergraduate degree and postgraduate degree / doctorate in Building Sciences, use their knowledge of moisture risk in retrofitting buildings, lead visual surveys and develop novel insights. In this way the Associate will challenge existing ways of moisture assessment to develop a cutting-edge innovative Moisture Risk Assessment and Management tool allowing robust diagnosis and managing risks in its robotic underfloor insulation service. Strong communication skills, a collaborative attitude and good project management skills demonstrated through previous experience in a business or academic setting will ensure the KTP Associate fully enjoys the benefits of their unique position at the interface between industry and academia, including their close access to the UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering.
