Updates on engineering and architecture jobs available around the world
We are seeking a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer to join the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering.
About the role:
This role involves conducting world-leading research as well as teaching groups of civil engineers and potentially architects (undergraduate and postgraduate) using a range of teaching methods. Research will be associated with one of more of our cross-disciplinary Faculty of Engineering and Design Research Centres and linked to a subject cluster within the Department. Teaching will include in-person lectures, small group teaching in design studios, online teaching, supervision of student research and support of individual students.
We encourage you to apply if you are specialist in one or more of the following areas:
- Digital fabrication of structures in buildings and infrastructure;
- Innovative approaches to structural analysis and structural design;
- Structural engineering using traditional materials (including conservation of historic structures);
- Structural form finding and optimisation.
You will be a colleague who can provide guidance and mentorship to students, encouraging their creativity and critical thinking in relation to sustainable structural design practices. Working with other structural engineers, materials scientists, geotechnical engineers, architects, environmental engineers and others within and outside the Department, you will further develop your own research in the field of structural design, promoting net-zero and regenerative design.
For an informal discussion, please contact Prof Andrew Heath, Head of Department, absah@bath.ac.uk or Prof Jun Zang, Deputy Head of Department, jz235@bath.ac.uk.
This is a full time, permanent position.
About you:
We would like you to have an emerging research profile with some initial funding and a growing publication profile (lecturer level) or a more established research profile with a well-developed portfolio of research funding and publications across a range of topics in leading international journals (senior lecturer level). You should be able to collaborate effectively with other professions involved in the design of buildings and infrastructure. A PhD in a relevant subject area is essential for this position.
Should you have personal or work commitments that prevent you from taking a full-time role, this position could be taken on as a job share, provided we can cover all requirements of the role. We expect any members of staff to spend 40% of their time employed by the University. If you would like to apply as a job share, you do not need anyone to apply with but please indicate what time commitment you are able to provide.
You will be a kind and culturally aware leader who fosters an environment where every individual is valued and respected, regardless of their background or identity. You will understand that change is inevitable and necessary, actively encouraging your team to adapt and evolve. By promoting a culture of openness and inclusivity, you will create a dynamic and empowered team that can thrive in today’s changing world.
