Updates on engineering and architecture jobs available around the world

The Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering is looking for two enthusiastic Lecturers!

About the roles:

These roles involve conducting research and teaching large and small groups of civil engineers and potentially architects (undergraduate and postgraduate) using a range of teaching methods. Teaching will include in-person lectures, small group teaching in our design studios, online teaching, supervision of student research and support of individual students.

We are specifically looking at Lecturers who are specialists in the following areas:

Computational structural design

Including but not limited to:

  • form finding
  • structural analysis
  • multi-objective optimisation
  • digital fabrication

We are looking for experts in developing novel computational techniques to generate and optimise structures with complex geometric form. You should understand opportunities that digital fabrication provides, with the aim of reducing whole-life carbon. We are not looking for individuals with expertise solely in structural analysis methods (e.g. Finite Elements) nor in BIM.

Environmental design of buildings

Including but not limited to:

  • passive design
  • advanced building simulation modelling
  • efficient building services systems design (including renewable energy systems)
  • net zero carbon design for both new-build and retrofit applications

We are seeking individuals who can provide guidance and mentorship to students, encouraging their creativity and critical thinking in relation to sustainable design practices. You will also lead research in the field of building environmental design with an emphasis on enhancing the environmental performance of existing buildings, promoting net-zero and low carbon design.

For an informal discussion about these roles please contact Prof Andrew Heath, Head of Department, on absah@bath.ac.uk or Prof Jun Zang, Deputy Head of Department, on jz235@bath.ac.uk. Please ensure you submit your application through our website.

Please note the title for these roles will be Lecturer in Architecture and Civil Engineering.

These are permanent positions with an expectation of both research and teaching.

About you:

We would like you to have an emerging research profile with some initial funding and a growing publication profile. You should be able to collaborate effectively with other professions involved in the design of buildings and infrastructure. A PhD in a relevant discipline is essential for this position.

Should you have personal or other work commitments that prevent you from taking a full-time role, these positions could be taken on as job shares, provided we can cover all requirements of the roles.  We expect any members of staff in a job-share for these roles to spend at least 40% of their time employed by the University. If you would like to apply as a job share, you do not need someone else to apply with you but please indicate on the application form what time commitment you would ideally be able to provide.

If you are appointed to the role, you will be supported in obtaining an accredited higher education teaching qualification if you do not already have one.

We also offer mentoring support to all our staff in the Department.

About us:

The Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering is an internationally renowned Department and is consistently ranked near the top of UK league tables for both Architecture and Civil Engineering. The Department is committed to supporting excellence in both research and teaching. It offers undergraduate, taught postgraduate and PhD research programmes related to both Civil Engineering and Architecture.
