Our Department of Architecture is rich in diversity, creativity and research, with an international faculty active across the industry. Our aim is to become a portal for talent across London, driving growth in the knowledge economy and creative industries. Ravensbourne students actively engage with experimental live projects and cross-disciplinary design briefs to create ideas and designs for future urban living fit for the 21st Century.

We are looking to recruit an innovative educator to provide expertise in teaching, learning, and administration to support the continued development of our architecture courses. The individual will have successfully delivered an architecture design studio in an architecture school and be able to demonstrate creativity when supporting students to generate design ideas, iterate, and synthesise credible design projects that reflect current, critical debates in the profession and beyond. This must be underpinned by a strong understanding of material, structural, and environmental technologies.

This role will entail:

  • Setting creative agendas focused on spatial design for the late 21st century, whilst enhancing student’s communication skills through 2D and 3D design practices;
  • Leading and coordinating the delivery of undergraduate design studio teaching, including lectures, seminars, and tutorials;
  • Taking responsibility for ensuring high-quality teaching and learning;
  • To be responsible for the integration of the ARB/RIBA requirements in the curriculum of the BA and MA Architecture courses;
  • Achieving and maintaining learning and assessment standards that demonstrate knowledge and understanding of designing architecture and the principles of climate literacy, ethical practice, and health and life safety;
  • Supporting the Course Team in the administration, recruitment, and promotion of the Department of Architecture.

Working closely with the Course Leaders, the candidate will deliver design studio teaching and technical skills at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels and engage in cross-disciplinary activities to develop the collaborative approach at Ravensbourne.

The role will require the preparation of material, admissions and recruitment, coordination, citizenship, and consultancy, as required by the Department of Architecture.

The candidate

The successful applicant must have a comprehensive knowledge of the ARB and RIBA requirements at Parts 1 and 2 in UK architecture schools and demonstrate significant professional knowledge of and experience in spatial design and/or architecture and the profession, coupled with academic teaching experience. The candidate will possess excellent organisational and communication skills, and the ability to engage students directly with their chosen industry will be essential. HEA accreditation or a PGCE is desirable.

The candidate should be familiar with working across virtual learning environments and associated teaching methodologies.

The successful candidate will develop and apply innovative and effective teaching methods, using a variety of different resources/materials, contributing to Ravensbourne’s approach to developing the teaching of creative disciplines.
