The renowned Book Tower in Detroit is undergoing a protracted repair project, which is being carried out by the building’s developer and architecture company ODA. A hotel and several restaurants have opened inside the Tower as part of this initiative.
Bedrock, a local developer, has completely renovated the 1920s tower for the past seven years. As a result, the old office building is now a multipurpose space.
Perched above the Bar Rotunda is a magnificently restored glass dome that adorns the Book Tower lobby.
The first round of restaurant and bar concepts were revealed in 2023 as the outcome of a collaborative effort with Method Co.
With the words, “We have taken great care to come up with hospitality ideas that will make Detroiters thrilled to be reconnected to Book Tower and also pay respect to the legacy of this outstanding building,” Method Co. CEO and cofounder Randall Cook emphasized the importance of Book Tower’s restoration to the city.
Bedrock Developers and ODA architects worked together to renovate the 1920s neoclassical building.
The 38-story neoclassical building is located on Washington Boulevard in Detroit’s Downtown neighborhood. It was designed by Louis Kamper, a well-known Gilded Age architect in the city.
An architecture firm in New York commissioned ODA to carry out modifications and additions to the existing buildings, resulting in the construction of 500,000 square feet (46,450 square meters) of mixed-use space.
Method Co was brought in to design and oversee a number of food services housed within the structure, including the ground level Le Supreme brasserie.
The task involved restoring the elaborate glass dome ceiling, the exterior windows, and the stone walls.
Method Co was brought in to develop concepts and oversee the operation of three bars and restaurants as well as a hotel that would be housed within the structure.
One of the features of Method Co’s most recent apartment hotel is Roost Detroit, a part of the establishment.
The newest property in Method Co’s portfolio is the apartment hotel brand Roost Detroit, which has locations in US cities like Tampa and Cleveland as well as Morris Adjmi-designed East Market in Philadelphia, which was highlighted in Dezeen.
In addition, the business operates The Quoin, a 24-room boutique hotel in Wilmington, Delaware housed in a converted bank. Additionally, their Whyle extended-stay property in Washington, DC, was selected as one of the longlisted submissions for the Dezeen Awards 2021’s hotel and short-stay interior category.
Roost Detroit offers both short-term and long-term lodging in chicly furnished living spaces with a range of sizes and configurations.
