Bulb LMP: LED bulbs as decorative pendant lights

Artistically creating synergies between materials and functionality, Lausanne-based Renaud Defrancesco innovatively crafts ‘Bulb LMP’ – a series of eclectic bulbs that has the particularity to be a lamp.

Deeply interested in the analysis of the environment around him and the impact of mankind. He launched his studio in 2017 and has since skillfully fabricated products collaborating with local craftsmen and utilizing new technologies.

Defrancesco brilliantly redrew the lines of the protective glazing formed around various lampshades, transforming them into Bulb LMP. His diploma project at ECAL received the BG Sustainable Development 2014 prize.

Effortlessly doubling up as decorative pendant lights – it’s available in a range of lampshade-like shapes created from pressed glass, using a similar quantity of the material as a traditional bulb.

Acting like diffusers, the downward-facing tinted glass pendants can be utilized alone or in a group where the bases seamlessly fit into standard screw fixtures.

LED technology has become the reference among bulbs thanks to its durability, reliability, and low heat diffusion.

Furthermore, this minimalistic one-of-a-kind illuminating collection is based on the principle that light-emitting diodes (LEDs) don’t need the layer of glass used in regular light bulbs to protect a filament.

“LED bulbs do not need specific glasses contrary to other bulbs. Therefore, I redrew the lines of the light source protective glass in different shapes of lampshades. So that it becomes a lamp by itself.
This project allowed me to reconsider and redefine an object of current consumption.

The bulb is not only a source of light anymore – it creates a source of atmosphere” says Renaud Defrancesco.
