The architecture practice in Munich, Berlin and Beijing, HENN, has completed the completion of Barramundi’s headquarters in Augsburg, Germany.

Design Features

With an area of 13,600 square meters, the building combines the social

and technical performance of the young software company Baramundi, and has been named baramundi HQ Building.

The building has been completed as one of the first pilot projects in the Augsburg Innovation Park,

while the headquarters helps cement Germany’s position as an engine of technical innovation.

The building also provides a platform for communication and collaborative work,

and contains a public canteen, flexible collaboration spaces and dedicated work areas.

In addition to a gym and a rooftop terrace overlooking the Alps.

The spaces are organized around a dynamic interior atrium, whose rotating,

staggered partitions create a mix of single, double and full height spaces.

The atrium creates an active social core to the building,

and its staircase serves as an informal communication space.

baramundi HQ is an agile work environment whose flexibility is expressed in the ever-changing character of its interface.

The minimal size of the glazing is hinged with a precision steel strip and elegant spotlights,

while the semi-automatic blind system provides a fun and highly functional sun shading system.

Design shape

The system combines low-tech blinds and a high-tech automated track system.

Blinds follow the path of the sun, providing varying degrees of shading for workspaces and lounges.

The curtains also create a transparent interior that, instead of closing off the building,

their gentle movements and seemingly random patterns create a direct connection with the natural rhythms of the outside world.

The interior is made of raw, exposed and natural materials, unlike the elegant and minimalist façade.

Workspaces may use colors and natural materials such as wood and fabric,

all surfaces facing the lobby are covered in a white acoustic layer.

Attenuating sound and amplifying diffused natural light,

bronze-colored curtains act as flexible interior partitions to create easily adaptable spaces.

Concrete panels in the headquarters are thermally activated,

and radiant heating is used to maintain a temperature of 21 degrees throughout the year.

It acts as a heat insulator during summer and winter.

The exposed concrete is studded with layered acoustic panels,

the perforated metal layer allows for thermal conductivity, while the foam layer absorbs sound.
